Trackpad Mac Does Not Work, Support and Solutions

When the Mac Trackpad Is Not Working, there may be various problems.

These depend on both the software and the settings and, unless accidental damage has occurred, they can be resolved very simply.

So let’s see what to do when the Mac Trackpad does not work .

Trackpad What is it

As anticipated when the Mac Trackpad does not work there can be problems with macOS or at the level of settings.

The trackpad is that part located below the keyboard and used to use the Mac without a mouse.

When the Mac Trackpad does not work it happens that it does not recognize the clicks and, although it can still use the external mouse , makes the device unusable.

Before reading the solutions, make sure that no liquid has fallen or that no impact has occurred on the Mac, and in particular on the trackpad .

If you are sure that everything is perfectly in order and that there are no apparent external reasons for the trackpad not working, here is what you need to do.

What to do if the Trackpad does not work

The first thing to do is to disconnect the USB and Bluetooth devices connected to the Mac.

You will need to make sure that all devices in the vicinity of your Mac are completely disconnected as well as those connected via cable.

In fact, if you do not disconnect the Magic Mouse and the buttons click on their own, maybe while in the bag, it could cause the trackpad to malfunction.

At this point, restart the Mac and check if everything is working again.

Restart of SMC and VRAM

If it didn’t work, you may need to reset SMC, PRAM and VRAM.

What is it about?

The SMC is the Management Control System and is used to properly operate the fundamental parts of the hardware such as the power supply.

To reset it, you must first disconnect all the connected devices and then simultaneously press the following keys: CMD – Option – Shift – Power key .

Restart and check if it worked.

NVRAM, on the other hand, is the non-volatile access memory .

It is a small part of memory that is used to store information that the Mac needs to access quickly.

PRAM is a similar memory and to reset it you will have to follow the same path.

Among the information that is saved in NVRAM you will find audio volume, display resolution, selection of the boot disk, time zone etc.

To reset press Option, Command, P and R .

Turn it off and on again while holding down these keys and release them after the second boot beep .

If you use a Mac with an Apple T2 Security Chip, release them after the Apple logo disappears twice.

Operating system

It may be necessary to update MacOS to the latest version so that there are no operating hitches on your Mac.

In fact, to have a MAC in good health it is always necessary to keep it updated by checking the presence of new available firmware on the App Store.

Update and restart and check if the trackpad is still not working or everything seems to be in order.

Finally there is one last attempt to make, that is to change the System Preferences to rehabilitate the trackpad.

To do this you will need to activate the Touch function to activate the trackpad without pressing.

You have to enter System Preferences and select the Trackpad.

Then put the tick on Touch to Click .

Now save and restart and your trackpad should work.

Still nothing?

At this point you will have to take it to a repair professional or, if it is still under warranty, go directly to Apple ‘s assistance service center in Dubai .
